Philadelphia: How Not to Conduct a Debate

I have debate fatigue. I'd like Hillary to just throw in the towel already

I think we're all suffering from debate-related ennui at this point. But, Stephanopoulis and Gibson were trying to find topics that would get them sparring. The problem is, they're so close on the issues it's difficult to find substantive questions that will do that. In regard to the questions you'd like to see, Lucy, (alternative energy, NAFTA, Olympics, etc.) how different can we realistically expect their responses to be? It's either watch them split hairs on immigration issues or "drill" Obama about lapel pins. Hence the general apathy.

Why not just stick to the topics that are important? Who cares about a pin or if they wear boxers or breifs,thong or granny pantys.

The debate was ridiculous. Right on, Lucy. The American public should get more than this from a "real" news station like ABC

LeftyLucy's right again (so to speak). But, consider the source: ABC "news". What do they really care about?

That's not "Commerical television" because they're interested in anything else besides Nielsen rateings. Ratings define how many dollars they get paid for another minute of advertising nonsense.

The "Debate" was brought to Americans for ratings. The "Debate", sorry to say, is a close cousin to Dr. Phil....fixed to sell. So ABC designed the "debate" to attract and to hype "my fellow Americans" to go buy something.

These are the same "fellow Americans" who will cast their ballot not based upon policy analysis but upon the trivia of pants suit, a pastor, or an empty lapel.

With such wisdom in control of the nation, what's it say about this vast majority which corporate commercials bend to their beat at their whim? Who's in control? Surely not voters, they're only the tools, swayed to and fro by Corporate persuasion.

Back to "American Idol", the voter's reality.

LeftyLucy's right again. Great moderators have large staffs who can dig into issues and pose questions designed to determine the reality and viability of candidate's programs. Push and dig, that's what great moderators can do. If, in the end, the candidates do agree and voters like what they hear, we are all in luck. If they have differences, lets know them.

But, back to my comment above, it is not the desire for depth and truth that moves ABC or any commercial media....it's pure dollars, and they come from ratings and they come for viewers, our "fellow Americans" who take lapel pins to represent truth and reality......back to American Idol.....

ABC producers well know debates run well only once. Thus, its about raking in immediate rating points and dollars. Yes, for a few critics and for the public generally, maybe ABC goofed up with trivial questions.

Never-the-less, ABC's objective was to corner rating points . It's wisdom to media insiders that a "legitmate" debate, based upon in-depth ABC research and subsequent questioning aimed to discover new truths produces yawns, channel clicks and Nielsen point loss.

It's better business for ABC to produce pop debate, collect ad fees, appear professional and contributory to Americana (FCC good-guy points), than to attempt to be the BBC, which they are not and besides, they'd completely lose the majority of pop-tuned audience.

It's all about media profit and only accidentally to do with informing America, except as it contributes to corporate treasury.

Replacing their debate, ABC would much rather present Hillary, Barrock and John contesting on American Idol........imaging the ratings!

It seems to me that a lot of people with visible work put a lot of thought into it before hand.
Recently I discovered a rant on quite a respected figure in the tattoo community's Myspace. I say rant, it was more like pure venomous hatred.
It would seem that some find young people with visible ink, impatient and disrespectful, and they must all just think it's cool to have visible work.
I'm 23, My first tattoo was on my shoulder, then my wrists, then I got a full sleeve. Then I moved to my hands, then neck and I also have a large part of my leg tattooed.
It took me about two years to get the opportunity to get my hand tattooed by my idol, and then my neck by an artist I greatly admire, a lot of time, effort and thought was put into both of these.
Even though I'm somewhat older and do have a fair bit of coverage, I might still be classed as young and "under-tattooed" to have such visible work, and I can't help but think that's kinda crazy!
Sure I've seen some 18 year olds with kanji on their necks or poorly executed skulls on their hands, and you can almost tell they rushed into it, wanting everyone to see their new work as clearly as possible, and fine that to me is impatient and maybe even attention seeking.
Basically what I'm trying to say is that not everyone who has visible work is disrespectful to the art, some people invest a great deal of time, money and effort into getting that particular location inked with the highest standard work possible.
It's kinda funny to find prejudice within a community that tries so hard to divert it away from itself.

I have to state this is for Intel based systems only (mainly laptops) and you would be well advised to image your disk BEFORE YOU TRY THIS just in case something happens and you cannot boot your Vista (IMAGE, IMAGE, IMAGE!!!)

Once you have your disk images precede with the following:

Backup your registry or make a restore point just in case.

Under search: regedit
Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\

Locate: folder "iaStor"
Under "iaStor" you will find a folder named "Parameter" > delete this folder

Locate: folder "iaStorv"
Under "iaStorv" you will find a folder named "Parameter" > delete this folder

This post opens set of articles devoted to computer security.

At first, I would like to give some basic definitions for variety of modern computer threats. All these threats are currently known as Malware.

Malware ("malicious software") is any program or file that is harmful to a computer or computer user. This would include, computer viruses, Trojan horses, worms, adware, spyware, keyloggers, web-page hijackers, driveby downloads, and any programming that gathers info about a computer user without their expressed permission.

4 years ago, the most security threats that most people came across were Viruses.

This is no longer the case!

There are new threats out; and they take no prisoners, no longer is an anti-virus application sufficient to stop the invaders, the web is a complex place and the technology is getting so advanced that you need to act now to protect your machine and your private\personal data.

A quick overview of some of the more common malware that you might find, sorted by level of threat:

SPYWARE

Spyware is any technology that aids in gathering information about a person or organisation without their knowledge. On the Internet (where it is sometimes called a spybot or tracking software), spyware is programming that is put in someone's computer to secretly gather information about the user and relay it to advertisers or other interested parties.

TROJAN

Trojans are malicious programs often used by hackers to attack target computers, usually to provide a backdoor into the system but sometimes just to cause destruction. Remote Access Trojans (RATs) are the most famous class of trojans and they usually come in two parts - a server that is sent to infect the victim, and a client that the hacker uses to connect to the server after the victim is infected. There are many ways that hackers can use to infect a target with a trojan, and careful security measures aren't always enough - a strong anti-trojan program can easily detect tens of thousands of trojans that would otherwise be near-impossible for a human to find.

VIRUS

A program or piece of code that is loaded onto your computer without your knowledge and runs against your wishes. Viruses can also replicate themselves. All computer viruses are manmade. A simple virus that can duplicate itself over and over again is relatively easy to produce. Even such a simple virus is dangerous because it will quickly use all available memory and crash the system. An even more dangerous type of virus is one capable of transmitting itself across networks and bypassing security systems.

WORMS

Worms are in a similar category to viruses. Usually spread by email and containing their own email engine, they attempt to spread themselves to all the people in your address books, impacting greatly on network traffic on the web. Sometimes you will find viruses also contain Worm code so the virus is able to mail multiple people using its email engine, whilst infecting the machine with a specific virus, making the sender of the virus hard to find as it looks like it has come from someone you know.

KEYLOGGERS

A keylogger is a program that has been dropped onto a PC that actively monitors all your keystrokes and mouse clicks to try to capture both personal data, passwords, and browser habits, it will also capture any data entered on any web site including secure sites like online bank sites. This data is then stored in an encrypted text file either on the machine or sent to a pre-defined server for the sender of the keylogger to access at his discretion.

ADWARE

Adware is any software application in which advertising banners are displayed while the program is running. The authors of these applications include additional code that delivers the ads, which can be viewed through pop-up windows or through a bar that appears on a computer screen. The justification for adware is that it helps recover programming development cost and helps to hold down the cost for the user.

HIJACKERS

A hijacker is a expression used to explain a registry entry on your machine that has been placed there to re-direct your browser to another site, usually ad-purposed. These are not normally harmful for the machine, other that the fact that it will stop you from getting to the web site you wish to visit. It is more of a frustration than a security risk; however, some Hijackers will attempt to redirect you from Hijack deleting sites.

Guess it was a bad case of the "Mondays" - cause I went nuts - and called the company (Gulf Coast Western) and went nuts.

Anyway, I feel like such a fool Gulf Coast Western -an Oil drilling corporation- called me back was calling to tell me I got the job!

Any advice or help on how I can fix the complaint - and get the job?!!
