Elizabeth Ross ~ quixotic
One need only stop for a moment at DailyKos to find a plethora of commentaries on either how badly the U.S. voters want change, or on the bumbling of the McCain camp on the campaign trail. Theoretically, McCain should have been able to pick up at least a few scraps off the table based purely on the "sour grapes" attitude of some Clinton supporters, but that seems to be doubtful - today.
M.S. Bellows, Jr. brought it up a few days ago on The Huffington Post - the backdoor attempts of the McCain camp to get disheartened Clinton supporters on his side. It backfired, terribly, but that was to be expected. He just doesn't have the political savvy to pull off something on that level. Bluntly, he also doesn't have an ace in the hole like Rove, to prep him properly (not that he'd listen anyway.)
So, why does any of this matter to Obama? We've all heard the adage, "history repeats itself", and that is what the Obama camp needs to be concerned about. The U.S. voting public has been known to go against the grain - say in one breath that they don't trust the CIA over even the IRS, then turn around and vote in George H.W., a former director of it, for example. Sure, they may say that they are categorically against many things McCain stands for (and for that matter, may say that they are ready for a black president.)
Following through to the logical conclusion of these musings - that no amount of polls can honestly predict the actions of the voters in November - one can seriously wonder whether or not it's even worth the time and effort to campaign. Back to the bumbling nature of McCain on this, there is room for the hope that Obama is so adept at selling.
If one needs a reminder of the costs, there are plenty of websites out there (including my personal one) keeping tabs on both lives lost and dollars spent on the war in Iraq. After seeing that, one needs only remember Lieberman stepping up to remind McCain about who the enemy really is over there - and remember that McCain supposedly is strongest on foreign policy.
As much as I hate them, this one is shaping up to be a single issue campaign, in that many voters are going to show up and vote based on one issue. It will vary amongst them, but it will still boil down to just one. As usual, we'll have a fair-sized crop of anti-choice folks screaming for the rights of the unborn - still unconcerned about what happens to them once they're out of the womb. Then we'll have an anti-war contingent, followed closely by feminists (pick a wave, any wave) and pro-choice activists. Finally, the largest group of all, will be bringing up the rear - the labor and economy folks who simply understand that they can no longer afford the status quo.
Based on that, the first group is the only one that is solidly McCain. If Obama manages to get the message out to the rest of them (he's already been doing it), then yes, this will be a historical election.

So you have noticed that the prolife group has no plan for the children they want to save.I wrote one group and asked them what was their plan and they told me that most would become loving and good parents and the others they would help.Seems alittle like they are looking through rose colored glasses to me.
At this point you have the two candidates and you hope people will make a wise choice. But they elected Bush twice!
